Cheap thread protectors are the gun equivalent of a booger hanging from your nose. Don't do that to your prized rifle.

Arcane Armory Custom thread protectors come in a variety of options to fit your rifle including material, shape, and features.

Materials: Generally speaking, material is chosen based on the appearance of the rifle and has very little effect on performance. With that said, some folks prefer to add a little contrast to their rifles by using a thread protector of a different color.

  • Blued Carbon Steel: A robust material offering excellent protection. Black color matches traditional blued rifles. Stands up to wear and tear well.
  • Stainless Steel: Select stainless to match your stainless barreled rifle.
  • Aluminum: Lighter than the steel options, and still protects threads. A bit more subject to heat-cycle loosening.

Features:

Round: These smooth thread protectors are the least visible on your rifle. Keep in mind, without wrench flats, they may not be as tight. Fouling can also sometimes make them harder to remove, but the use of pliers or channel locks will leave marks. Best to use a pad in whatever you choose to loosen them.

Wrench flats: We make protectors with two flats for most applications. These allow the use of a standard 3/4" wrench for installation and removal. For in person orders, we trim the back of the protector to "time" the wrench flats so that they land level on the sides of the rifle.

How to measure your rifle:

The best method is using a micrometer or dial caliper. Preferably, measure as close to the threads as possible because most barrels are tapered. If you are comfortable, a tape measure can suffice, but the thread protector will only fit as well as you measure. A diameter that is a little off will not affect function, but won't look quite right either. Additionally, measure the length of your threads from the base of the threads (chamber side) to the farthest point on the crown. The goal is to make sure that no barrel is protruding from the thread protector.
